Caring for Gimmelwald

The new SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX will travel to Mürren directly from Stechelberg. The existing Stechelberg – Gimmelwald – Mürren cable car will continue to operate, ensuring that Gimmelwald stays connected.
The inhabitants of Gimmelwald are dependent on an efficient, regular and modern connection in both directions, to Stechelberg and Mürren. Schilthornbahn shares the concern of keeping Gimmelwald connected for the community and ensuring it remains an attractive place to live.
For this reason, Schilthornbahn is entering into an agreement with the municipality of Lauterbrunnen and the residents of Gimmelwald governing the obligation to provide a transport connection.
Schilthornbahn guarantees the year-round transport connection between Gimmelwald and Mürren with the existing cable car on at least an hourly basis between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight, until at least 24/08/2035, irrespective of whether an order to this effect is issued by the Federal Government or the canton.

If the obligation to provide a connection still applies on expiry of the concession and operating permit in 2035, Schilthornbahn will apply for a renewal/extension of the concession and operating permit and will implement the necessary technical measures as required.

The municipality of Lauterbrunnen and the residents of Gimmelwald will implement and support all necessary and reasonable measures to maintain the permanent population above 100 and/or above the critical number pursuant to the AGV (Allgemeine Gemeindeverordnung [General Municipal Regulation]) Art. 3 Para. 1.

Schilthornbahn, the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, and a committee representing the residents of Gimmelwald will discuss and assess the possible measures every year and will draw up a list of measures to maintain the permanent population.
